Adios Des Moines

Hello fam & friends!

This week absolutely flew by! This was my last full week in Des Moines and I don’t think it could’ve been any better. We were able to find a lot of people who were excited to hear about the Restored Gospel and saw a lot of growth and progression with the investigators we have been working with...just had to be the last week when things start going well. lol. But all in all, I’m happy to leaving Des Moines with things going strong!

Last week when Elder Rivera and I were knocking, we walked up to this lady who was out on her porch. After introducing ourselves and everything she told us to come stop by next week, telling us she would love to hear about our message but was sick at the moment. So on Friday, we stopped by Angie’s house and to my surprise there she was waiting and ready for us. We sat down and showed her the Easter video (can’t show it too many times haha) and all she could say after was “Wow”. As we related it all back to the Restoration you could tell the Spirit hit her hard. We were talking about the First Vision and as we were, tears started to build up in her eyes. It was a powerful experience. As we closed and were walking out, Angie just threw her arms around us and gave us a very unexpected hug. Lol Obviously, we had no idea what to do or how to react so we just went along with it. It definitely showed us how much the message we share had touched her.

We were able to also meet again Sandra and her kids. Sandra has a lot of faith and as we walked in their apartment she hurriedly made room for us on the couch, clearing off all the kids’ toys, so we could sit down all together. As we all sat and talked about the Book of Mormon, it was really cool to see Sandra open up and little Catherine be so happy to get her own copy. As they start to read, they will come to realize all the blessings that come from it as we promised to them. Pumped for them to start this journey!

Sadly, because of work all day long, Sandra and her kids weren’t able to make it to church. But walking into church on Sunday, E.Rivera and I were introduced to our man Carlos! Our member brought Carlos to church to check it out and he loved it! Couldn’t stop talking about all the feelings that he had. Milagro! And get this, our member ran into Carlos at McDonald’s, yes the Golden Arches, and just opened his mouth. Just opening his mouth led to a friendship and then coming to church together. As missionaries, we are to ‘open our mouths’ at any given moment, but it’s something special when a member does the same! Helps people feel of the love and light of our Savior. So start opening YOUR mouth!

Sending all my love,

Elder Christensen

Elder Christensen received transfer orders this morning and is heading to Hampton, IA to be a trainer. He’s off to see some cornfields!
