Solid Week

¡Familia!
Pretty solid last week of the transfer with Elder Sitterud
and Elder McConnell. Haven’t found out my plans for the next transfer so I’ll
let you know next week. We had a handful of really solid lessons and for one of
the first times on the mish all the lessons were something different. So it was
really nice to get out there and start working more and more on my Spanish
(i.e. it wasn’t just resto after resto like it usually is..lol)
One of the lessons we had this week was with Jeni & Jose.
I have been talking with them for some time now but haven’t been able to sit
down with both of them and chat about the gospel. We were planning on talking
about the Plan of Salvation and for me the Plan of Salvation is the toughest
lesson to teach, even in English, let alone Spanish! But throughout the week,
without even knowing we were going to teach them the Plan, I had been studying
it every day. And along with that even had the chance to role play the Plan of
Salvation with President Badger during our District Meeting! I was the most
nervous I’ve ever been in a lesson! But that’s another story… All in all it was
really cool how everything happened to help prepare us for the lesson with Jose
& Jeni. And it paid off! The lesson was solid and couldn’t of gone any
better. I was actually able to speak the language confidently but even better
Jeni & Jose felt really good about all of it. Jeni was even sitting there
writing down notes and scriptures to look up once we left. Sadly, they weren’t
able to make it to church on Sunday, but they are making great strides towards
receiving a testimony!
District Meeting with Pres & Sis Badger |
Last night we had a really awesome lesson with a less active
and his non-member wife. We actually ran into them at a Target a week or so
back just randomly. Edwin saw us down the aisle and called us over to chat. It
was an unbelievable tender mercy just running into them and led to us being
able to come over and talk with them. Edwin has been less active for about 2 ½
years, ever since he had met his wife, Jessica. Jessica is awesome, super nice
and having a little baby boy in 2-3 weeks! But she just had a problem with the
Book of Mormon and why we need more scriptures…stuff like that. But as they
invited us over last night, we just wanted to listen and just chat with them.
Slowly Jessica opened up and as we asked them if they had any questions we got
into an awesome conversation about the Book of Mormon. As Jessica told us how
she just wants whatever is best for her new baby boy, the spirit was so strong
as we testified of eternal families and how the Book of Mormon is the best gift
a family can have in this life.
The work is going well here in Des Moines…hoping to stick
around for a few more weeks! Scripture of the Week: 3 Nephi 9:14
“Yea, verily I say
unto you, if ye will come unto me ye shall have eternal life. Behold, mine arm
of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive;
and blessed are those who come unto me.”
