BEST WEEK!

¿Qué anda fam?

This week was like an 180 degree turn from the past couple weeks! Maybe the most solid week I’ve ever had in Des Moines. We worked hard, found a handful of people to start working with, and received some pretty cool news about the mission. The Asistontos (AP’s) let us know that in the coming months, we’ll be getting smartphones! Will be a nice change from our 1990 flip phones and to have everything we need in our pocket. Heard the transition period is rough and lots of transferring documents to the phone… but change is good, right?

Elder Rivera and I saw and witnessed countless miracles this week as we just tired to get something going. It’s impossible to write them all but there are a couple cool ones. One is meeting our new investigator Belén. We were actually stopping by one of our less solid investigators to try and talk to her. Just happened that Belén lived right across the hall, a door that we had already knocked, and we thought we heard some faint Hispanic music playing. But after knocking twice, waiting a bit, and having no luck, I was ready to move on. But Elder Rivera persisted and knocked a third time. A minute later we had met Belén and were all sitting around her table sharing the message of the Restoration. She was hanging on every word we said and couldn’t wait to share it with her husband. She was very open and excited to learn more! Of course she worked that Sunday right during church, but we’ll talk and try to get a little change in her work schedule haha!

Another miracle was meeting Jose Luíz! Jose’s door was the very last door we knocked before we hit our “after 8 o’clock no knocking time”.  Jose opened right up and invited us right in and started chatting. Meeting Jose, I legit thought he was thirty. Turns out he is 17 years old and loves to play soccer. So you already know I was all over that. Jose has talked with missionaries before, when he lived in Oregon, but moved soon after he had met them. But what I think really hit Jose hard was how all 3 of us clicked. He even said, “You guys are different than every other missionaries from different churches. They are all uptight and super serious but you two are just laid back and chill. I like that.” So we’re pumped to work with Jose and hopefully get his family involved!

Now here’s a quick funny story to rap it all up. Elder Rivera and I drove past a park on our way to knock doors and about 6 kids were out there playing ball. So no hesitation we went out and started balling with them for a  little bit. As we’re saying what up to them, one of the kids says, “I’ve seen this on Facebook before! Don’t trust them. They seem all trash at first then all the sudden they start breaking your ankles!” Haha our secret is out there!

Sending love from Des Moines.
