Six More Weeks!

Six More Weeks!

We had transfers this week and I’ll be staying one more transfer in Des Moines! I’m staying together with Elder Rivera and we are both excited to get to work and continue the progress that Ana & Gustavo are making progress (it’s not Angel anymore, since we’re tight he wants us to call him what his family calls him!) The transfer this time was a bit of a shock to stay here for what’s going to be six months but I’m excited to be staying in the Branch and six more weeks to baptize all of South Des Moines…haha!

Like the past couple of weeks, this was another grind. Lots of knocking doors with very little success. We finally talked to some people late last night but they were English, so it’s straight to the AP’s …so with that, the grind continues. But on the bright side, Ana, Gustavo and baby Santiago are doing great. We were able to visit them twice this week and talk with them about the Plan of Salvation. On Tuesday, Elder Rivera and I just stopped by and with no notice or anything. Our quick lesson was awesome! We shared a couple of scriptures from 2 Nephi chp. 2 and left them to read the rest of the chapter before our next visit. By the end of our lesson, Ana’s Mom, who we aren’t teaching yet, opened up to us. But instead of listening to our message, introduced us to Ana’s younger sister and her friend. She said, “Ladies, introduce yourselves. These boys are single, know a lot about Jesus, and are even good looking!” …oh boy (insert eye roll)!

We stopped back by on Saturday to talk to Ana & Gustavo some more, and when we got there, our awesome Relief Society Presidency were just leaving after visiting Ana and bringing some things over to them. It was so cool to see and hear Ana & Gustavo talk about how loved they always feel from the members. Tender mercies and a ‘dream come true’ for a missionary! As we kept chatting with them, Gustavo had read the chapter we had left them and he loved it. They are loving everything we talk to them about. Now it’s just waiting for them to get settled with baby Santiago and everything. Just got to get them back to church and then they are ready to get dunked.

Favorite scripture of the week – 2 Nephi 25:26

“And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remissions of their sins.”

*note from the editor: Back home in SLC we had a great reminder this week just how small the world is within the church. Jim is serving in the bishopric of the Riverside YSA ward and our family played in the Stake Soccer Tournament with the ward. At the tournament, we were chatting with some of the guys that we normally don't have time to talk with on Sundays. That is where we met Harold Valdez. It was so awesome to find out that Harold's parents are in the Branch where Scott is currently serving, in fact Bro.Valdez is in the Branch presidency. How lucky are we to be able to hang out with Harold each week while his parents are taking such good care of Scott!
