Un Testigo and Yesenia
¡¿Qué lo que fam?!
Time is flying by still…legit feels like
yesterday when I was writing last week’s letter. Weeks fly by like days but sometimes days feel like weeks. The life of a missionary! But with how quickly
the week went by, we had an awesome week!
We started the week by going on exchanges
with the Zone Leaders. Elder Roskelley and I drew the short straw and did
nothing but work in my current area. Everything turned out for the best though
because we were finally able to get some things going, find some lovely
Hispanics to start working with and a fresh perspective on the area. Best part
of the exchange was knocking into un Testigo (Jehovah Witness) named Omar and actually
having a super solid conversation with him. He told me how he has read the JW
Bible four times, cover to cover and basically loves reading about Christ
(well, do I have a book for you! Haha) As we introduced the LdM to him, he took
it surprisingly well...considering he was a JW. They rarely allow us to talk about
the Book of Mormon with them, let alone accept any of our pass along cards or
pamphlets. But Omar was different. He was super stoked to learn about this
extra knowledge of our Savior and was excited to read the Resto pamphlet and
the BoM!
Elder Rivera and I also had a miracle fall
into our lap. A family in the Branch was out knocking doors for their business
when they knocked into Yesenia. For some reason, they didn’t even talk to
Yesenia about the items they were selling and somehow brought up the church.
Like what?! She was going through some rough times so didn’t hesitate to have
us stop by. We went over to meet her on Wednesday and it was the coolest
lesson. We were able to give her a blessing right off the bat then go right
into the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While talking with her, the family who had
originally found her were just chopping at the bit. The only thing Elder Rivera
and I had to do was bring up a topic and the members would just go
off…teaching, testifying, sharing their whole conversion story. It was so sick!
Tears were shed. (Member missionary work is golden, so to my peeps I say, "get busy!') Sadly, Yesenia wasn’t able to make it to church , but we found
out that she had to head out of town at the last minute to see some family. She’s
already planning on coming next week.
Things are at a little bit of a stand still
right now with Ana and Gustavo. Ana is having a rough time post pregnancy, so we
are giving them a little bit of space while everyone adjusts. They are solid
investigators and we’ll be ready for them once things get back to normal around
their house.
The scripture that summarizes this week is 1 Nephi 16:29
“And thus we see that by small means the Lord
can bring about great things.”
Con amor,
