Hola Hampton!
Got a baby boy for my birthday...Elder Richardson
It was transfer week and after six months in Des Moines and the Capitol Branch, I’m up north in Hampton (aka Little Mexico). And since transfer day fell on my birthday, my birthday present was getting a baby boy! A greenie straight from the CCM in Mexico City. Training was probably the last thing I was expecting and when Pres. Badger told me on Tuesday, I was totally blindsided. But was super excited, ready for the challenge and could not wait to get up to Hampton. My boy’s name is Elder Richardson. He’s a stud from Taylorsville, UT. He says he loves anything to do with a ball so it’s gonna be really hard to get along with him....psych! He’s awesome and really excited to get to work and the best part is he makes me breakfast every morning, so life is good!
It was tough to say goodbye to all the homies in Des Moines, so many people I’ve come to just love. Making all the stops to say goodbye to everyone was a bummer, especially all of our investigators that were totally progressing. But I’ve heard awesome things about Hampton and was excited for a change. Being two new Elders in the area you would think the Branch would cut us some slack, but they didn’t. We hadn’t even arrived in Hampton when the Branch President called us and asked that the second we get into town to start filling up the baptismal font....then he asked if we both could talk on Baptism and the Holy Ghost. Poor Elder Richardson, not even in Des Moines 24 hours and he has to give a talk out of the blue...classic! Haha But they put us right to work, nothing better than that.
Since getting here, we haven’t been able to do a lot of finding. Winter came again...in April...and dumped six inches, constantly snowing since Friday night. But while stopping by all the members homes to get to know them and introduce ourselves, we ran into two super humble, super down homies. One is named Benny. We thought we were knocking on a member’s door but obviously we weren’t. Benny opened up the door and immediately invited us in. As we went through the Restoration, he was so into it. By the end he just couldn't wait for church and to bring his wife and kids too! And we were pumped too! With him, we would have three investigators at church on Sunday. But....we woke up to another couple of inches of snow on Sunday morning, and since it’s Iowa, church got cancelled (pansies!) So we had to tell Benny and everyone else that we had been planning on, not to come to church. Major L! I was thinking to myself, “Welcome to the mission Elder Richardson...where you make all this progress then it just falls apart somehow.” The grind of a mission! Oh well, the new week could bring great things.
Love you all so much and thank you for all the birthday wishes! I treated myself on Wednesday by playing 9 with the boys. Felt SOOO good to shake the rust off a little!
Con amor,
Elder Christensen
