Honk 4 Jesus

¡Hola!

We had a nice busy week here in Hampton. This was the last week of the transfer and it’s crazy to think that my first of two transfers here is already over. Seemed just like I just got here and still have so much unfinished business to get done. But that’s a good thing so hopefully we’ll be busy there next 6 weeks.

We went on exchanges this week with the Elders in Mason City. Our goal during the was getting ourselves “seen” by the people. So we came up with the idea to make signs with “Honk 4 Jesus”, “Jesus Loves You”, and “Free Book of Mormons & Bibles” on them and go stand out on streets for an hour or two. At first, I thought this was the worst idea EVER, just a waste of time. But when we got out there on a busy road, everyone driving past was reacting to us. It was impossible not to see 4 guys wearing white shirts and ties, standing in the median of the road holding and waving big signs. We heard a lot of cussing, saw a few middle fingers, and even one car drove by super slow with “Highway to Hell” by ACDC playing. Haha! But besides all of that, all the honks we got, smiles on peoples’ faces and handing out a lot of cards, Bibles, and Book of Mormons was incomparable to other stuff. Turned out to be the best way to be “seen” and the best way to spread the light of Jesus Christ and brighten someone’s day. Minor detail – some grouch called the cops on us as we were doing this…cue ACDC for him! Lol! So, a cop came, saw what we were doing, and basically told us “if we don’t get hit by a car, keep doing what you’re doing. People need this!”

Back in Hampton, Elder Richardson and I were able to have a good handful of lessons with our peeps. Still waiting for the marriage papers for Carolina…. I now know Elder Roderick’s pain. But she is great and basically a “Dry Mormon”. We also saw and had a great lesson with Adriana. She is awesome. She drives us crazy at times because of how shy and timid she is, but she has a strong desire to know that this church is true. She is doing everything she needs to be doing…. except coming to church, Ugh! She literally finished Alma in the Book of Mormon and has told us that she knows that it’s all true. Just trying to find what’s holding her back from coming to church. So pray for her! And for Carolina!

One quick story that shows the roller coaster ride of the mission. Our recent convert to the Branch brought her boyfriend to church yesterday. It was his very first time coming to our church. A missionary’s dream! He loved church, wanted to learn more and everything, so we were all over it. I was so excited inside. Then, found out that him and the recent convert are getting married on Saturday, then moving to down to Kansas City the next day….L! Dream shattered. But it’s all good, we’ll get them in contact with missionaries down there and they’ll get him dunked!

Hope everyone had a great week! Extra love to my EHMS brothers.

Con Amor,
