Seeking Some Service

What is up fam & friends?

Another week just flew by but we were able to get some good work done! Elder Richardson is coming along nicely and soon will be a natural! I want to start off by talking a bit about a “young” couple we knocked into this week, Jene and Richard. This awesome couple has been married for 64 years! I put “young” in quotations because that is how Jene described the two of them. They both have been Methodists for their whole lives, a little stuck in their ways, but loved talking with us about God and our message and how much they loved each other. Even though Jene and Richard may not progress at all, I wanted to share our experience with them so I can give a s/o to another “old” couple…25 years of wedded bliss for Patti & Jimbo! (Dad, thank me later for the reminder) Because of them though, I have the endless happiness of knowing that I have an eternal family. The least I can do is try to share that happiness with others.

This week we really tried to focus on finding as many service opportunities as we could. Everyone is out and about with the awesome weather we have been having so it was just nice to extend a helping hand. We were able to help the Senior Center here move into a new building. It was a good time and fun to see other people in the community helping, open up to us and ask what we do, why we’re here, etc. So with that, we were able to share our purpose as missionaries and our desire to serve others and the Lord. We’ll also be teaching two English classes each week, one for the Branch and the other in town. Both should be good chances for meet new people who could be open to the Gospel!

With our teaching efforts as well, we really tried to focus everything back to Joseph Smith. An obvious thing to do but something that can never be emphasized enough. So with that in mind, we tried to showing the “Ask of God” video about Joseph Smith’s and the first vision. On one of these occasions we had just knocked into a young woman named Yamilex. We shared the video with her and asked her what/how she felt about it. Out of everything she could of said, she said, “a lot of peace and joy”. That’s obviously what the Gospel is all about; a constant stream and flow of peace, joy and happiness.

Funny experience of the week, after helping a cute 72 year old with some service she all of the sudden starts talking about her love life….oh man. She then says, “You Mormon boys sure are amazing” and then goes on to start hitting on us! She then asked us out on a ‘lunch date’ then asked for our number. We of course said yes, it would be stupid to reject free food. But we are looking forward to our next ‘date’. Stay tuned…LOL!

Keep it classy. Love you all!

Enjoying the view!
