Taco and the Championship

CHAMPS!

Fam and Friends!

¿Comó te van? I’m going to jump right into things because what a week! Have I ever told you guys that the mission is a roller coaster ride of emotions? Well, if you’ve forgotten, I’ll remind you again. The mission is a constant up and down battle but it’s the best. Yeah. This week we had some bummer stuff happen, but it was always bouncing right back and finding other awesome possibilities. I’ll start with Carolina. She dropped the bomb on us…she’s moving 2 hours away…this week! We are so bummed. She was making strides. But even though she’s moving out of our area, she’s moving close enough to my squad back in Des Moines so we’ll get in touch with the Elders down there to swoop in and welcome her! Bummed but some positives nonetheless!
I mentioned Arnold a couple weeks ago. This man is a stud. He came to church with his member friend for the third straight time this past Sunday! He’s loving it. Loves primary, loves church, everything. He’s also dead set that we have superpowers since we have the Priesthood. He just can’t wait to get the same “superpowers” when he’s older. Last week, we gave him a Book of Mormon, both in Spanish and English, and in the week and a half that he had them, he’s almost done with 1 Nephi…in both! Who is this kid?! Here’s the bummer part though… every time we try to come by his mom shakes us off, says to come back the next day, and only gives us like 5 minutes to talk to Arnold. So it’s crazy tough to really do anything with him. But, we’re trying to build up our relationship with the mom and gain her trust. About all we can really do…
Here’s a funny story with Victoria. We had a super solid lesson with her again. She is doing great and if all goes according to plan, she will be baptized in a couple weeks! After the lesson, we were walking out the door when her pit bull named Taco, made a break for the door. Taco runs right through my legs and takes off down the street. Just for us to keep him in sight so we didn’t lose him, we took off after him. Back home, dealing with Scout, Stella and Maesie, they’ll usually come home once they’re out…well not Taco. He was outta there. After 40minutes of chasing Taco across Hampton, through yards, and around the cemetery, he finally decided to sit down and let us catch up to him. Oh but wait. Did I mention that this was all in a torrential down poor? Yup. Just an average Iowa thunderstorm that when it rains, it POURS. We were drenched, top to bottom, even with raincoats. It was nice to swim for the first time in a while…
One last highlight of the week. We were at Israel’s championship baseball game (throwback to the Cubs ayyyyy) when a boy came up and asked us, “Are you guys praying for us to win? Cause every time you are here, even for a couple minutes, we win.” They won the championship. The church must be true. There’s no possible answer.

Check out 3 Nephi 9:14-22 when you have the chance. Come unto Him!!

Sending my love from Hampton,

Elder Christensen
