The Why

Yo!

Another week down! I was going to start off by taking a jab at the Utah offense for how they are sounding but decided to give them a break because they’re already hurting enough…But on the flip side, if our week was half as bad as the Utes’ offense we still would be making more progress than them…lol sorry, had to do it. But actually, we had an awesome week and things are just ballin’ right now in Waterloo.

In the past 2 ½ weeks, I don’t think I’ve ever taught more solid, sincere, worthwhile lessons in my entire mission combined. Day in and day out we’ve been full if appointments and people to see. As a result of all of the teaching, things are falling into place with a handful of our homies and a lot more that are in the works. Joseph is still doing solid, still just the greatest guy. We stopped by Saturday night to talk with him and we knocked into Joseph and a big ole African party. He had a squad there and did not hesitate at all to invite us in. He sits us down and says, “You’re family now, my brothers.”, then introduced us to everyone. He’s so funny. We found out that everyone in the area from Congo loves him and respects him, so if we’re able to finally get him committed to take a swim and stay solid, it should open up the doors for a lot of Congolese.

Also, we are working with a hilarious dude named Brett. A recent convert and Brett’s best friend, Tallon, literally begged Brett to talk with us and come to church. We met with him two weeks ago and he came to church for the first time on Sunday. Church blew his mind and it was classic. After the first hour he was already talking baptism. Kinda whack so we had to help him get off his spiritual high…never thought I would have to do that on the mish…But I ain’t complaining! Teaching him is so fun too. He’s like a walking Bible Topical Guide (soon to be BofM) and all we have to do is give him a reference and he takes it and understands what we are talking about. The Plan of Salvation blew his mind as well and we left that man jaw dropped. Literally!

Lots of other good stuff going on but not enough space/time to write it all. On Thursday, Scoresby and I trained in zone conference again, topic was the word of wisdom. But we twisted it and talked about “the why”. We focused in around the WofW but got me thinking how sometimes we just don’t get “the why” to certain things. We don’t have the patience, understanding, or desire to just take a step back and reflect on that certain thing. Try it for yourselves, look for “the why” and as you do, everything will be understood. Always remember “the why” of the gospel!!

Quick funny story. We were at dinner last night and everyone at the table had their own bottle of Dr.Pepper except the four of us…I was so upset. Typical member things thinking we can’t drink caffeine…SMH (they should see our fridge!) Finally, once dinner was over, they finally asked us if we could drink one/want one. You know me, I thankfully accepted a cold one and bounced. Happy that I just got my DP for the day.

Love you all! Hopefully Utah finds their offense, right now they are as productive as finding people to teach in the ghost towns of Iowa…nothing!

Much love,
