Brett's Baptism

Fam & amigos,

Overall another solid one out in the corn fields. Corns growing, it got up to 90+ already, and Iowa thunderstorms are still the coolest thing ever. We move up to Iowa City in less than 4 weeks so things are starting to get crazier and crazier as that approaches. I'm going to miss the South Side of Des Moines a ton, I've spent a year of my mission in that area. But I'm stoked for one last change of scenery. The transition will be crazy getting the entire mission office moved as well as moving our apartment up there but somehow it will work out.

Some exciting news though is that my man Brett got baptized!! I taught Brett up in Waterloo with Elder Scoresby back in the days. We found him and taught him everything but a week before his scheduled baptismal date he bailed due to family concerns. I was pretty heartbroken. That would've been my first baptism in the mission field. 4 months later, after both Scoresby and I had been gone from the Loo for some time now, Brett picked up his phone and called the Elders and said it's time for him to be baptized. In the process he reactivated his buddy who had been baptized the summer before. As he came out of the water, he threw both hands up in the air and said "THANK YOU JESUS!!" Something really funny (you gotta know Brett) and something that usually doesn't happen at baptisms, but it was all serious. You take a look back at it and this man was rejoicing his Savior. He was able to follow Him, be baptized into His church, become clean through the Atonement of Him who he was thanking. It was a funny moment after everyone kinda giggled with each other, but something that was so much deeper and inspiring. Similar to Brett calling off his baptism back in October and his process of coming back to the Church and contacting the missionaries again, I can do nothing but think about Jose and Susy. The timing of all these events is just too perfect to allow me to see the bigger picture. I have no doubt that the same thing that happened with Brett will happen with them.

Our girls Adriana and Bianca are doing great! We are really trying to get them progressing and baptized before we leave. That would be a nice cherry on top moment to leave Des Moines like that. Either or, they'll be getting baptized. As we sat and talked with Adriana, she told us about all the dark places she has been in the past 2 years. She is wanting to find that light again and we assured her that she has found it. As we testified about the Book of Mormon and the ability it has to fill us with that light, she just looked right at us as if we were dumb and said, "I already know that the Book of Mormon is true. I just need to open it now." The faith of this cute lady was so cool. I told President Badger about it during a call and he said, "Well that's no surprise. All you have to do is look at the Book and you can feel and know of its truthfulness." Leave it to PB to hit me with that mic drop.

(late) HAPPY BIRTHDAYS TO GRANDMA BARB AND OLE' MAN RIDER.
