Restart

Lisa?!?!
Mis queridos,

Another week has come to a close here in the Loo! It was fairly solid overall and things are starting to pick up here. Every day has its ups and downs but this week has put a lot into perspective. This mainly comes from our efforts at stopping by part member families. We’ve been making that one of our priorities and so far we have had zero luck whatsoever…It’s kinda been a bummer to see it all play out. Not that no one is answering us, actually the majority are opening up, it’s been their reaction and answer to us that has been pretty sad. Every person (at least one member of the household) had not been to church in over 20+, 30+, 40+ years. And while talking with them, at least six of them (out of 7-8 families) had no reason at all for why they weren’t/stopped coming to church. We see it a lot but every time it leaves me walking away asking, “How?!”…How can they just casually brush something off like the Gospel of Jesus Christ and all the blessings that come with it?! They all took advantage of what they had, what WE have! It’s a different feeling and just hard to describe. But before I stop rambling on…PLEASE don’t take advantage of what you have and what you will YET have. It’s not worth it. The difference is unreal.

But anyways, we’ve been working with our boy Joseph. He’s still just hanging in there but this week he made some strides towards the right direction. Joseph had been taught everything before I came to Waterloo but he just wasn’t having it. Wasn’t progressing, not coming to church, etc. But for some reason,  we just haven’t let go of him. This week we completely restarted with him. After a solid lesson on Saturday, it really all came down to if he was going to come to church. Sacrament meeting rolls around and boy oh boy, Joseph walks in lookin’ so fresh! Tux and everything. Caught everyone’s attention, he had so many people coming and talking with him. He’s stoked for next week and things are looking great. Keeping the fingers crossed that his progress will continue.

Side note: This seems to be a common thing with our peeps. Kinda just restarting so they are solid moving forward. Made me think…sometimes we all need to restart to ensure we are solid moving forward as well. It’s what the atonement is all about.  Just a thought (aka “The Gospel according to Scott”)

Sunday evening we saw a dope little miracle happen. We were visiting our homie Sharon (kinda our grandma here in the Loo) and across the street from her live three homies from Honduras. So I’m always saying hi and just chatting with them. They’re studs and LOVE soccer, so I’m always talking about that not about the Gospel…oops, my bad! But finally, church got brought up (ironically after talking about their past pick-up game) and turns out one of the guys, Rueben, had been baptized back in Honduras when he was younger. What?! So this opened up a conversation and ended with all three of them, Rueben, Carlos, and Alanzo, with three new Libros for them to read. We’ll be dropping by later this week to try to get things going.

Take a peep at Jacob 1:19. “Magnify our office!” or in other words, share the gospel!

Abrazos y besos,

Elder Christensen
